Milling and Slabbing

Portable Saw Milling and Slabbing Services

Milling of your timber can be done on your property, to your requirements and where the tree lies. The Lucas Mill provides consistent, true, square timber, produced at a much lower cost than buying the equivalent timber.

A report by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation quotes;

"On-farm sawmilling offers many benefits because of 85% the high returns from sawn timber," also "On-farm milling enables landholders to take advantage of niche markets in areas not well serviced by the large milling operations."

On site milling will also save money on transport and handling costs and the time required associated with moving logs.

Getting the best recovery from a log

The impact to the area is minimal and milling can be done in almost any location. Maximum yield is gained from your log to further decrease the cost of the end product, good useable timber from a previously unusable log. Minimal waste is generated from sawing up a log, with this waste being sawdust and non square cuts that is the trimming cuts which are needed to create square timber from round logs. Some of these trim cuts can be creatively used in rustic furniture or garden edging thus further reducing wastage.

Slabing two pine logs at once

Slabbing can be done utilising all the previously mentioned benefits of milling, that is, many locations possible, can be done to your requirements, minimal impact to the environment, consistent true boards, but slabbing will also give the bonus of full width boards. (bark to bark) These boards or slabs can be used in a variety of applications such as for bench tops, coffee tables, table tops, seats, bar tops, solid timber cabinetry without the need for joining timber, practically a whole host of uses.
Big wide boards of good-looking timber are becoming harder to source and as such are a much sort after commodity which can be highly priced.

Maximum capacities

Milling up to 7 metres in length, (or 23') with board size being up to 300mm x 150mm (12" x 6" ) or any size combination less than this.
